Thai-rific thai in Melbourne's outer east

Cosy and quaint are two words that sprung to mind upon entering this small Thai restaurant. That and the smell that hit my nose made my stomach rumble.

Located on Devon Street, off the main shopping precinct in Croydon, stepping into Thai Lemon Tree is like entering the dining room of your favourite Thai neighbour.

The menu is quite extensive for such a small restaurant, with curries, soups, and rice dishes, amongst others, all on the menu.

While our entree of prawn spring rolls and roti with peanut sauce came out reasonably quickly, we had to wait about half an hour before our main was served. I felt like I was on an episode of 'My Kitchen Rules' minus the awkward table conversation.

Luckily, the main dishes were worth the wait. We ordered Red Curry with prawns and Pad Kee Mao chicken, with a side of steamed rice. The flavours of both dishes were really delicious and although spicy they weren't overpowering.

The servings were also generous, so much so that I was able to take some home in a doggy bag. Win!

I would thoroughly recommend Thai Lemon Tree to anyone who loves Thai or who just loves food. The prices are extremely reasonable, the vibe is friendly and the meals are scrumptious.

Thai Lemon Tree is open for dinner from 5.30pm, Tuesday - Sunday.
